Bristol runner takes on marathon for breast cancer
A budding runner from Clevedon is preparing for the London Marathon, which she will be running in memory of her grandmother.
Anna Richards, aged 25, will be joining the Breast Cancer Campaign's Jigsaw Runners team for the race around the capital on April 26.
Anna, a physiotherapist at South Gloucestershire Primary Care Trust, never met her grandmother, who died when her own mother was very young.
Anna said: "Running down The Mall with a Breast Cancer Campaign vest on will be the biggest achievement of my life, not only from a physical point of view, but also mentally and emotionally.
"It may sound silly, but I think it will show my mum I respect and appreciate the possible life she was forced to give up and become a mother figure for her younger brothers and sister and the consequences this had.
"I hope it will show her and my grandmother that I am willing to push myself harder than ever for my family."
To help reach her fundraising target of £1,500, Anna joined forces with the promoters of a club night at Timbuk2, Small Street, Bristol on the Easter Bank Holiday.
The night is called Drama and is already well established on the Bristol clubbing scene as the official after-party to Bank Holidays.
It began at 3.30am and continued until 9am yesterday morning and all profits went towards the Breast Cancer Campaign.
Anna added: "By raising money to fight the disease, I hope to reduce the number of stories similar to mine.
"I am doing this for my mum's future, my future and for the 45,000 women that will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK this year."
