Bristol rugby star opens old school's sports hall
England and Bristol rugby player Mark Regan went back to his old college to open its £2.5 million sports hall.
The hooker, 36, went to St Brendan's Sixth Form College, Brislington, from 1989 to 1990.
He told guests at yesterday's launch the Catholic college's rugby reputation attracted him to study there, along with the chance to work with coach Keith Gee, now a curriculum director.
The sports hall, dance studio and fitness suite mark the first phase of a £20m rebuilding of the college, which has more than 1,500 students from across the area.
The Bishop of Clifton, the Rt Rev Declan Lang, blessed the new facilities.
College principal, Derek Bodey, said: "All students now and in the future will benefit from well designed, purpose built accommodation.
"We are grateful to the Learning and Skills Council and Bristol City Council's planning department, who have made this project possible."
