Bristol revellers welcome the new year in style
Bristolians defied the freezing temperatures last night and headed to the bars and clubs to ring in the new year party-style.
It was bitterly cold with temperatures of around -3°C but there were parties aplenty, despite the credit crunch, and people still put on their glad-rags and danced the night away.
At Dragon Kiss on Whiteladies Road chaps sported tuxedos while women wore sparkling dresses and drank champagne.
Others opted for fancy dress for a bit of fun. Superheroes and biker chicks toasted the new year in Lloyds bar at the Harbourside.
David Grenville-Newland, 40, from Fishponds, said: "We are going to have the best night at the best club in Bristol – Platform 1. 2008 has been absolutely fantastic because I met Claire, who is a fantastic woman. Hopefully the credit crunch won't be too bad and there will be some more good luck in 2009."
Andy Mac, 35, from Fishponds, said: "I'm really looking forward to seeing in 2009. I have got a few resolutions including getting a new house, new job, new car and new girlfriend."
Kelly Edwards, 22, from Horfield, said: "We are going to be partying into New Year's Day at Native night club. This new year will see a new me. From now on in I'm staying in and saving money so that I can go travelling."
Nicky Watts, 27, from Brislington, said: "I probably won't see a lot of New Year's Day as I expect I'll have a bit of a hangover. But I am looking forward to a fresh start in 2009. Out with the old in with the new."

“It was too damned cold to go scampering outside to welcome in a New Year which seems likely to be fairly disastrous.”

“Were there no outside parties in Bristol? What a miserable place! No revelries at the Victoria Rooms, yet again?
No getting together on College Green or the City Centre?
Bristol is supposed to be such a great place, but obviously not at New Year. I am too old to be partying now, but I love to see youngsters enjoying themselves. What an unhappy place Bristol is!!!”
