An inmate at Bristol Prison in Horfield has died after he was found hanged in his cell.

The 46-year-old prisoner was discovered at 8.45am yesterday , a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Justice said.

Staff attempted to resuscitate him but he was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

The spokeswoman said: "As with all deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an investigation."
