A Bristol mother of two is worried that her home might collapse after cracks have appeared in every room of her two-bedroom flat.

Kelly Griffiths, 28, who is expecting her third child, said the cracks started to appear when she was decorating in the front room of her home in Sturminster Road, Stockwood.

She said the crack gradually got worse and began to creep across the entire length of her sitting room wall.

Since then, cracks have appeared on walls and ceilings in every room.

Ms Griffiths said a council surveyor had inspected the property and confirmed that it was suffering from subsidence.

But she said: "We've been in touch with the council to find out what's happening but we're just not getting anywhere.

"I've lived here for four years and like it here but I don't want to stay if the flat is unsafe.

"We first noticed the cracks when we were decorating the front room and we filled the cracks with Polyfilla.

"We didn't think much about them but since then, they have been getting worse and each time we close the sitting room door, bits fall out of the wall."

She said a crack on a wall outside the flat was particularly bad and was also getting worse.

She said: "The surveyor told me the house is sinking."

The flat is above a boarded-up former doctor's surgery on the corner of Tibbott Road.

A city council spokesman said:"We were contacted by the tenant last week over concerns about several cracks in two of the rooms at her flat. A surveyor inspected the outside and inside of the property and we are seeking a survey by a structural engineer.

"While there is a fairly substantial crack in one of the living room walls and in the hall near the loft hatch, there is no risk whatsoever of structural collapse and no danger posed to the tenant herself or to her children,

"Once we are in receipt of this a housing officer will decide what the best action is to take is with regards to any repairs and whether we need to look at re-housing.

"We would be very happy to talk to the tenant further if she needs any more information at this stage or has any specific concerns and we will get back to her as soon as possible once we have more information."
