Strike action throughout the summer has left a huge backlog of undelivered mail across the country.

In Bristol there are more than a million items of unsorted post, and tomorrow's action will throw the postal service into further chaos.

The Communication Workers' Union in Bristol is also set to announce a further strikes at the giant processing Centre in Filton and delivery units across the area in the near future.

    “@jimwormold

A very old thread, but a very valid point. The latest my post has arrived this year is ten to four (15:50). That giives me precisely 40 minutes if I want to reply to it.”

“I will support them if they attempt to deliver the post at a time when someone is likely to be in. In the good ol' days (maybe the 80s, but also possibly in medieval times) the post used to be delivered by about 0730. That made it useful, and it would still be edible.

I hope the same tardiness doesn't start affecting the internet making my email arrive after lunch when I'm out.”

“If this goes ahead, I will be forced to walk more than fifteen miles to the nearest UPS depot, to send my sister's weekly box of candied soot.”

“I am most concerned about the continuing so-called "strikes" we're forced to suffer, due to the loony left policies of Prime Minister Blair.”

“this dispute WILL be won by the posties and the cwu, because we have strengtj and unity and all the non union types are spineless, because we 're doing their dirty work for them, winning them rights in the work place. the cwu is as steve said one of the last real bastions of the unions who have refused to back down to successive tory/new labour governments. the way management treat postal workers is a disgrace, and this is some thing that comes from the top of royal mail, from messers crozier and higson, constantly proposing unachievable targets for delivery workers and it is only because we have the courage to stand up to management that we get any concessions at all. i have consistently made the point on here that if more people supported trade unions and industrial action then we would have a better country. case in point-look how this country has gone to the dogs since maggie thatcher tried to destroy the unions. remember we're in a "recession" at the minute yet mail volumes are higher than ever and royal mail has just announced its biggest profits ever, that wealth needs to be shared!”

“I applaud those of you with enough forsight to realise how things would be without the sacrifices made by trade unionists in the past. Make no bones about it it will go back to the "good old days" if they beat this last bastion of Unions....the CWU. If it does go back look forward to unpaid leave, bank holidays, and who will work for the least gets the job. Even Royal Mail delivery managers are sick and fed up with how they have to treat their staff....I do Know just a few!”

“What they don't seem to realise is that they are placing more pressure on businesses that are struggling already. I am waiting for payment from my customers via the post (not everyone likes using the bank to pay directly) If these are not received soon my business will be harmed and then there will be more unemployed people. So from that perspective I have no sympathy for them.”

“Jason, do you have 'Doormat' tattooed on your back? Listen to Charles. It is because of people with backbone that we have the working conditions the majority of us enjoy today, of which invertebrates like you can take full advantage.

    Mike, proud BALPA member.”

“Jason,I hope you are well enough educated to understand what I am about to type,Mary makes a very valid point, with regard your Medievel remark, this was happening in Britain less than 150 year's ago,as Graham remarks, the Trade Union movement was born because of bad employer's,and if were not for the efforts of our forefathers,we would still have workhouses, living our lives in destitution, and doffing our caps to the ruling classes, remove your blinkers, and look what is happening around you.”

“Yeah mary, these strikes are directly related to medieval times, this will turn into a religious debate soon!!!... wait mary? omg! its already happening!

Making a stand for something completely out of order is one thing, complaining all the time and taking advantage of it, is another thing..

@Postman Pat - Just deliver my mail like you are being paid to byatch. If its not enough wages, find another job!

It not like you need years in college to be a postman!

you can be replaced in a heartbeat by someone more deserved of having a job!”
