Three more Bristol postal strikes
More than 2,500 postal workers across the Bristol area are set to strike on three separate days over the next week.
The move, triggered by an ongoing dispute over pay, jobs and conditions, will leave homes and businesses all across the region with undelivered mail.

Tomorrow 400 drivers and sorting staff at the Severn Beach distribution centre will down tools from 4am for 24 hours.
Later on tomorrow 200 collection and distribution drivers at the Bristol Mail Centre in Filton will walk out.
Postmen delivering mail to houses across the city will not be on strike tomorrow, but on Friday there will be lighter residential deliveries because of tomorrow's strike.
Further industrial action is scheduled for Tuesday, when 1,100 mail sorters at the Bristol Mail Centre will stop work for 24 hours from 1.30pm. There will be no deliveries on Wednesday and a lighter delivery on Thursday.
And 1,000 staff from 19 delivery depots across Bristol and beyond will go on strike at the end of next week.
The Bristol and District Communication Workers Union (CWU), which represents postal workers, said the strikes were a reaction to Royal Mail breaking a national pay and modernisation agreement made in 2007.
Richard Hall, a spokesman for Royal Mail, said contingency plans, including using managers to deliver post, would minimise disruption to services.
Mr Hall said: "We again condemn the CWU for striking over much-needed modernisation and change which has already been successfully implemented in the majority of offices around the UK and is working well. The union claims to support modernisation, yet acts to destroy it."

“This lucky to have a job attitude, is a comment that really is unintelligent. Someone who has worked for Royal Mail for twenty years ! Surely it's the other way round and Mr Greedy Crozier is the lucky one to have this loyal person in the company.
The posties are not on a jolly. They don't get paid for missing work. I know for one thing, if the posties were left to run the company it would be a far more efficient business. I fully support all the posties as I understand why this action is necessary.”

“i agree waith graham, i also want to know why residential areas are being affected as i have been waiting for a package from america that has been a month averdue and still hasn't been delivered mainly becouse of all these strikes. if they want to hurt people into giving in to them, THEY SHOULD NOT DELIVER TO COMPANIES becouse when they don't deliver residential, people like me who are unemployed can't even find out if they have an interview to attend until it is too late as i have just had happen to me.”

“darren its all very well saying that we should all be grateful for having a job, but that is giving the companies a green light to do whatever they want, which will only exacerbate the problems i highlighted in my previous comment. i am a proud trade unionist and i will never cross a picket line, because if we don't use trade unions to get our voices heard in this country, then the gap between rich and poor will increase, and the voice of the working man will gradually disappear, so it is vital we use it. remember people often say about people dying for the right to vote, well the same can be said about trade unions. its all very well companies being competitive like royal mails record profits last year but it makes no difference to the employees unless we get to see some of that money ourselves, some thing that royal mail bosses arfe too greedy to do unless they're put under huge pressure. i think they should be docked a days pay for every day of industrial action, then see how quickly the problems that they're currently hell bent on causing will suddenly become unfeasible.”

“My main point in my arguament was that the posties should appreciate even having a job becouse there are plenty more people out there who eould do it at a moments notice, like ME.”

“darren the right to go on strike is a vital part of any democracy, its called freedom of speech or the right to protest, but i understand that there are too many people in this country that are prepared to let themselves be walked all over as they think that they're 'it'. and they are until the company decides that they don't want them. and you can't fire people for going on strike, its called law, something which big companies have no respect for. those people who don't back industrial action are always the first to moan when they're work loads increase and they get nothing in return, because those people are too selfish to think of any thing apart from them selves”

“all royal mail employees need to grow up and be thankfull that they even have a job after all of the strikes that they are on, they strike more than work now!.
if i were in charge i would fire all striking employees and give the jobs to people who will appreciate having a job. the reason royal mail are getting less business is becouse no-one wants to send a packge via a company that will never get it delivered becouse they are always on strike!.
so STOP STRIKING AND GET TO WORK!.”

“The Thatcher legacy lives on. Many, no most younger people would not know a trade union and it's benefits for working people. I think this is shown by the harsh and negative comments made towards postal workers on this forum. Lets not forget that under "new Labour" the rich have got richer, and the poor poorer (The Rowntree foundation findings) Somebody has to make a stand before it gets worse. I say stop knocking a group of people who have the bottle to stand up and be counted.”

“all you people slagging off us posties for going on strike i wish you'd do some research on the facts surrounding this dispute beforee you start slagging us off. it is royal mail managers who have walked away from the agreements about pay and modernisation. it is royal mail managers who have destroyed the service yet you moan at us for going on a couple of days strike for trying to protect the current levels of service. the problems that we have in this country are largely caused by the fact that there are a large number of greedy people who want to take all the money for them selves and end up with so much of it that they don't know what to do with it and as a consequence we end up with a huge gap between rich and poor. if more people supported industrial action in larger numbers then this country would be a fairer place for every body and not just for those who can afford the extorionate cost of living in gb.”

“Nigel none of the post persons out in this dispute can afford to lose the money, but if we didn't stand up for what we thought was right then we would be walked all over. Royal mail pay and modernisation agreement that was made by them! back in 2007 has now been walked away form by them! Not us (cwu members). The company has introduced the modernisation but we don¿t see any of the pay. Our bonus has been removed at the start for April this was also part of that agreement.
So on reflection I¿m more than happy to lose a few quid especially if it will help my future as I have already been stiffed with my pension .
From the happy striker dan”
