Bristol police praised for second year running
Police in Bristol have been recognised for the second year running for the "outstanding" way they engage with the city's communities.
Last year, the Special Branch Community Engagement Team scooped the Diversity in Action Award at the prestigious Jane's Police Review Gala Awards.
Bristol District Community Safety Team hope to bring home the prize once again for the same category.
The arrest and conviction of Islamic extremist Andrew "Isa" Ibrahim highlighted the foundations built up over a number of years with the Muslim community.
Inspector Mark Runacres, who is now the neighbourhood Inspector for Southmead and Avonmouth, said: "I am very proud of the team, it was really deserved. It also reflects well on the community. We have built up really constructive relationships, particularly with the Muslim community who are very responsive and keen to work with us."
Avon and Somerset police spokesman Steve Game said: "It is when dealing with a high-profile issues that the benefit of the team's work becomes so clear.
"They are well known within local communities and have gained respect and trust by delivering the highest quality service."
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on October 28.
