It's been a long wait, but Totterdown residents were finally able to celebrate the opening of their local park after an £80,000 revamp.

The community group TRESA – Totterdown Residents Environmental and Social Action – won the money in the Big Lottery Fund People's Millions in December 2007.

On Saturday the group held an opening ceremony for Totterdown Park, which now has an extended playground and new equipment for children to enjoy.

Celebrations included children's entertainment and a picnic.

TRESA member Alice Cabanas, 29, of Totterdown, has two children of her own who will be able to enjoy the park, Louis, seven, and Sally, four.

She said: "It was brilliant, it's been almost two years since the project began.

"It's gone from somewhere you could take the children for 10 minutes to somewhere you could spend all day with them."
