Bristol pair Sian James (Bristol & Clifton) and Hannah Barwood (Knowle) were never really in contention for the British women's strokeplay championship after high opening rounds at Royal Aberdeen.

James began with an 80 on a course where 72 is par, while Barwood shot an 85. James went on to make 311 (80 78 74 79) and Barwood 312 (85 77 72 78).

The consistent Charlotte Ellis (Minchinhampton) was joint seventh on 310, six behind winner Danielle McVeigh (Royal Co Down).
