Bristol mum writes musical for school production
It is High School Musical – but not as we know it. Junior boys and girls at Clifton High staged an original show at Clifton Cathedral for their Christmas production.
The musical, entitled The Other Joseph, was written for the school by Stoke Bishop mum, Sharon Smithen, in collaboration with Clifton High's music director Andrew Cleaver.
Sharon, 43, whose children Sofia, six, and Oliver, four, attend the independent school, said she was very impressed with the young cast's performance.
She said: "I was staggered when I saw them in rehearsal. There are some very talented singers."
The Other Joseph is Sharon's first attempt at writing a musical and she hopes to go on to do more, perhaps for charity.
A former lawyer, she has always enjoyed playing the piano and writing songs.
She said: "It is a new look at the Nativity from a man's point of view. Joseph risked being stoned for going away with Mary and he left his home and family. It is an incredible love story."
