Bristol mum's appeal to send Christmas shoeboxes of goodies to Afghanistan
A mum from Bristol is appealing for help filling shoeboxes to send to soldiers in Afghanistan at Christmas.
Childminder Liz Farrell, 45, from Knowle, was a medic with the Royal Navy Reserves for 24 years until the medical branch was closed down three years ago.

She has already raised more than £4,000 for the charity Help For Heroes with an event earlier this year, and now she plans to send out hundreds of Christmas shoeboxes to troops in Afghanistan.
Already, 200 boxes are being prepared by people across the city, but she wants to send even more.
Liz said: "People can either do their own box, or send me money or things to put in boxes that I will be preparing. It is things like foot powder, shower gel and lip salve that they need, and biscuits because they don't have those in their ration packs. I want to send some tinsel and silly hats to cheer them up a bit and let them know that people back home are thinking of them."
If you want to help Liz or prepare your own box, call her on 0777 185 7526.

“Hey Jo,
Lets not go overboard.
Lets not forget their wages, and the benevolance shown to their families for their chosen profession.
Nobody forced them to be soldiers and now it's all boo-hoo they are away in another country give me some stuff to send to them.”
