Bristol lorry driver ignored village weight limit
A Bristol lorry driver has been convicted of ignoring a weight limit in a South Gloucestershire village.
Martin Williams, of Redcatch Road, Knowle, admitted breaching the 7.5 tonne restriction for vehicles along Severn Road in Hallen.
It resulted in a £115 fine from North Avon magistrates after he was caught driving an 18-tonne lorry through the village in February.
Williams was also ordered to pay £400 in costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
The court was told he was stopped during an enforcement check that was carried out by police and South Gloucestershire Council trading standards officers in response to complaints from local residents about HGV drivers suspected of breaching the limit..
Trading standards and licensing manager, Mark Pullin, said: "Trading standards routinely conduct weight restriction enforcement checks to ensure drivers do not breach the weight restrictions that the council has imposed on our roads and bridges.
"Drivers should be aware that South Gloucestershire Council is prepared to take court action against offenders and this case should be a deterrent to any driver considering breaching a weight restriction."
