Ms Tanner, 51, collected the award for "outstanding education reporting by a regional journalist" for a series of articles on the review of primary education in Bristol.
The annual event takes place in the Members' Dining Room at the House of Commons. It is organised by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) Education and Skills Group, a network of 200 PR and communications professionals working across the UK education and skills sector.
Presenting the award, Keith Bartley, chief executive of the General Teaching Council, joint sponsor of the regional category with the Institute of Education, said: "The regional media are especially important in teaching, a national profession, and to the GTC in particular, for so much of what we do is of regional interest. There are many talented journalists working regionally and the CIPR awards are an excellent way to ensure they receive the credit they deserve."
On Ms Tanner's entry, the judges said: "Linda makes this interesting and relevant. She deals with both 'macro' policy issues and 'micro' issues affecting children, families and communities. Her style is clear, often quirky, and always interesting."
After receiving her award, Ms Tanner said: "I am proud to receive this award. It is a recognition of the investment the Post has made in providing clear, unbiased and in-depth coverage of the education scene in Bristol."
