Bristol jams over man's suicide bid
Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the Bristol Royal Infirmary yesterday after a man threatened to jump from the roof of the Old Building.
The man was seen on the roof shortly before 6pm and Upper Maudlin Street was closed to traffic.

He was eventually coaxed down but the closure caused traffic chaos. It is not known whether he was a patient at the hospital.
Jo Green, 33, an IT manager from Royal York Crescent, Clifton, was one motorist affected by closures.
She said: "I was heading in the direction of the Triangle but got diverted down by the eye hospital and then through the centre. Everyone was curious to know what was going on because there was a large number of police cars, ambulances and fire engines."

“As one of the hospital security officers that shut the road before police arrived, we did it to keep people safe, if he jumped and hit your car he would have killed all inside, so it was you the motorist we were looking out for.”

“Everybody moaning that traffic delayed, time waster etc etc. What do you suggest they do - leave the road open as the chances are the person is only kidding. What if the man had jumped and fallen on a car or a person, how tramatised would someone walking past be if they saw such a thing happen. Give them a break they have to do what they think is best for everyone.”

“That quote from Jo Green is a fascinating and insightful account of the situation - well done the BEP!
Someone deserves a journalism prize for that.”
