An exhibition about Polish people who have come to the West Country since the Second World War starts next week.

The Anglo Polish Society's exhibition – 'In war and in peace, Poles who came to the West Country' – will open at the Central Library in College Green on November 2.

It will show a variety of themes from a short history of Poland, the Poles contribution to the war and the lives of Poles who settled in the region.

Lady Trotman-Dickenson, trustee of the Anglo Polish Society, said: "We have created this exhibition to show some of Poland's history along with the Polish contribution to the community in both Bristol and the South West.

"Also we want people to gain a greater understanding of Polish culture as we now have many Poles living in this country."

The exhibition is open during library opening hours in the entrance hall library and will be there until January 31, 2010.

Admission is free.
