A front nine of 31 with five birdies set Wood up for good score and when his eagle putt dropped on the tenth, the 6ft 5ins Bristolian was flying. Although he dropped a shot at the 12th, he bounced back and regained the momentum with birdies at the 14th and 16th to finish on 15-under par
n only his second outing of the season, Wood made the most of a low-scoring day at Doha Golf Club and leap-frogged over a strong field which included European Ryder Cup players, Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose and Martin Kaymer as well as American Ryder Cup player Jason Dufner.

Looking for his first victory since turning pro in 2008, 25-year-old Wood said: "It was one of my better rounds today, but not one of my very best.
"I felt I was swinging the club nicely, putting the ball within ten feet of the hole and giving myself loads of chances. I'm really excited about the final round and giving myself the chance of winning my first tournament."
In his column for The Post this week, Wood admitted to being a bit ring rusty in his first outing at Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship last week where he finished tied 70th.
