Bristol golfer Chris Wood captures his maiden European Tour victory in dramatic style
Bristol's Chris Wood celebrated his maiden European Tour victory with a dramatic eagle on the last hole of the Qatar Masters today.
Leading by two shots going into the final round, Wood was looking at another final round heartache as he walked onto the 18th tee at Doha Golf Club, one shot behind clubhouse leaders Sergio Garcia and George Coetzee.
Realising he needed a birdie at the par-five to join the play-off for the £246,000 first prize, Wood sensationally struck with an eagle to give him outright victory and launch him into the world's top-60 golfers and a place in the forthcoming WGC event in America.
He had a shaky start, double bogey at the short par-three third, but as he has done all week, Wood bounced back with a birdie at the fifth, eighth and ninth to see him complete the front nine on level par.

South African Coetzee hit a final round 65 and Ryder Cup player, Garcia carded a 66 to give them the lead in the clubhouse, before Wood's majestic eagle saw him lift his first European Tour crown.
Wood, a member at Long Ashton Golf Club, had won an Asian Tour event in Thailand last August, but a recurrence of back problems, meant he was unable to maintain the momentum.
