Bristol gets millions for primary schools
Bristol is celebrating today after the Government confirmed a £12 million grant towards rebuilding and revamping primary schools.
The handout was delayed in November after Ministers expressed concerns about the city council's strategy for improving educational performance for children aged four to 11.

But the Department of Children, Schools and Families, which sent in a team to help the authority revise its proposals, is now happy with the strategy, part of a £46 million three-year programme for primary school buildings.
The Primary Capital Programme funding will be put towards new schools in St Paul's (Cabot), Whitehall, Millpond and Sea Mills; amalgamations in Lawrence Weston and Victoria Park and improvements at Elmlea Infants, Bankleaze and Parson Street primaries.

“Gentlemen, so cynical! Providing public services is genuinely a difficult job. Criticising those that have to manage it is easy.
We ought to be grateful that we have political accountability through the ballot box. It also looks like there has been an element of external control from central government (which I think is a good thing?). And of course the spending will be audited which will protect the payments to be made in the next 2 years.
And don't forget that it is investment in education, which has to be a good thing.
Friday's Ray Of Sunshine brought to you by Vic of Bristol.”

“Have to agree Steve. How much of that £12m will actually be spend directly on primary schools? Not a lot I'm sure.”

“So what?
The LEA officers are so incompetent and Labour has left education in such a mess that this money will be wasted by Bristol City Council.
Whenever the Council receive money they waste it.
Cycling City money - wasted.
Arena money - wasted.
Education money - wasted.
Public Transport money - wasted.”
