Bristol flashmob events to take place on Thursday in support of global campaign to end violence towards women and children
A GROUP from Bristol is taking part in a mass event on Thursday in support of a global campaign to end violence towards women and children.
The collective was set up by American playwright and feminist Eve Ensler, who wrote The Vagina Monologues, and urges the women of the world, and the men who love them, to “strike, rise up and dance”.
The event, called One Billion Rising, coincides with Valentine’s Day and is a call for people to dance in solidarity.
The Bristol group has organised a flashmob event that will take place in various locations across Bristol city centre throughout Thursday afternoon.
This week's delicious £5 5 O'CLOCKTAIL is a refreshing Tequila Sunrise. Available everyday from our Bar for only £5 between 5pm & 7pm.
Terms: £5 cocktail applies to the cocktail of the week.
Contact: 0117 2448281
Valid until: Monday, May 27 2013
The group, who will wear red and black, believe around 300 people will take part in the dance event, that will use Zumba choreography.
Members will meet at 12.15pm at St Peter’s Church in Castle Park.
A similar event is taking place on the same day at Yate Shopping Centre at 12.30pm.
Workers and families from South Gloucestershire, including Yate Children’s Centre, Survive, South Gloucestershire Council staff and the families they all work with, will take part in a flashmob.
The music track they will use is called Break the Chain, and was written especially for the event.
Another event organised by the Bristol group will take place on April 27.
There will be performances and stalls at St Werburgh’s Community Centre from 12 noon to 4pm, followed by a fundraising gig at The Attic Bar in Stokes Croft in the evening.
Fromage en Feu are headlining and there will also be local DJs and Bristol Samba band.
All money raised will be donated to Next Link Bristol. More information at www.facebook.com/events/503788542965811/?ref=ts&fref=ts

“Nice litmus test of the average commentator on this "news" site.
You're right of course the greatest untold story of oppression is that of the European Male. We all know it. It's just the liberal-communo-feminist-anarcho-PC-socio-lefty-MUSLIM!!!-lesbian-europhile press that keep this story from being told.
Good luck with the protest. Hopefully none of these cave dwellers will gate crash - I assume they won't as moaning about how hard done by they are on a website is more thier speed.”

“Bedmo - you need to take a few deep breaths matey.
I'd recommend a nice soothing cup of nettle tea served in by a disabled lesbian working at a drop in centre for battered gerbils.
Reflect on the fact that life is full of humor, beauty and most of all IRONY.
Just because you are a big fan of Jo Brand and Germaine Greer doesn't mean other's are.
If you take everything too seriously you are in danger of becoming an embittered, sad and lonely little internet troll...
Peace brother Bedmo.”

“The comments below are like a transcript of the ramblings in a rotary club. You know what lads, if you don't like it, don't go.
As for "demonisation" of men. Oh do pull that chip off your shoulder lads. It's nothing to do with your masculinity (which I suspect is borderline at best) and everything to do with you being fossilized old mysoginists.
I don't like domestic violence, I don't feel a protest against it is in anyway a threat to my gender. That you do only highlights what delicate little flowers you are. As said, men aren't being marginalised - idiots are. Which are you then?”

“This is not a "flashmob" event.
A flashmob is a group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual and seemingly pointless act for a brief time, then quickly disperse, often for the purposes of entertainment, satire, and artistic expression. Flash mobs are organized via telecommunications, social media, or viral emails. The term, coined in 2003, is generally not applied to events and performances organized for the purposes of politics.”
