“Why has bristol city council got £8 milllion stashed away in an icelandic bank? i want decent services in bristol at a reasonable cost, not being overcharged so these people supposedly running this city can put in a savings account!.

“I have always used Bristol Credit Union, they are a hell of a lot more ethical than using banks and provide better (and more human) membership facilities.”

“No seriously, you just have to watch where you shop. Also, compare prices before purchasing. Youll save loads that way.”

“I went to my local Asda supermarket one evening and was met by a group of youths who were hanging around outside making a nuisance of themselves! There was one female member of staff on the door trying to stop them from going into the store. I was shocked by their behavour as two young females slammed into me as they walked into the store they were either unaware of what they had done. or they just did not care as they were showing off too their friends I found it very intimidating. I said to my husband where are the parents? do they know what there teenagers are getting up too. I believe the parents should be made to take responsibility for their childrens behaviour and the police should be given more power to be able to take appropriate action. So we can all feel safe!”

“The only people that will be stung are those that live beyond their means. Never borrow money you can't be sure of repaying, regardless of rate rises, falling values, income changes etc... You can't just blame the banks - you signed the mortgage/load papers. By the way - I normally live in Bristol - and love it. Just working in Brisbane for a couple of years...”

“Farouk. What would I rather have? How about a government and big business that plans ahead properly and doesn't sell us all down the river whilst simultaneously creaming off as much money from the tax payer as possible.? We import most of our crops etc from overseas. Same goes for our gas supply and oil so as soon as there is a wobble prices of everything shoot up and we have to pay another crountry a premium for them. And don't get me started on the money grabbing supermarkets...!

oh and Farouk.remember Northern Rock? all tose idiots pulling out there money at the same time because of doom and gloom merchant? instead of leaving it where it was. They were just as responsible as the greedy fat cats for the government bailout.

There is plenty of money in the pot the banks are just too interested in looking after shareholders to release funds. Are you silly enough to think that the profits/losses that the banks talk about is actually real money? It's not It's all just numbers on a screen. The only losers in this are the general public. but then it is partly our fault for allowing a bunch of inept idiots to run the bank of England an the treasury.

Perhaps they could start by asking the city boys who created this mess to repay their bonuses. But they wont.. Change the way they trade so it is not bonus led? No. Couldn't possibly do that.

If there had been more care taken a few years back by the finance industry then we wouldn't be in this mess now.

Yes we all fell for the lie hook line and sinker but when you go into a bank for a 2 grand loan and are told categorically that actually you need a 5 grand one then you have to ask who is really at fault in all of this.”
