A heartbroken father who has lost a ring given to him by his son before he died is offering a reward for its return.

Royston Richards, 67, who lives in Eliot Close, Horfield, wore the gold sovereign ring to a Bristol Rovers match at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

The ring used to belong to his son, Colin, who died of heart problems, aged 42, two years ago while on holiday in Spain. Saturday would also have been his birthday.

The family think Mr Richards, who uses an electronic wheelchair, lost the ring at some point en route to the match or while he was at the ground.

Mr Richards' wife Veronica said her husband is devastated at the loss of the ring which meant so much to the whole family.

She said: "My husband is absolutely distraught, he's gone away for a few days to be by himself because he just wanted to get away. We're all really upset and I think what made it worse was that it was Colin's birthday on that day.

"He goes to the matches every fortnight, we're both disabled so he doesn't go out that much. We've checked with the ground, the police and the serviceman's club he went to beforehand but we haven't had any luck.

"We're just hoping someone might come across it as they walk about Horfield. I can't bear the thought of someone selling it and it being melted down."

The family are offering a £50 reward to anyone who finds the ring. Please contact Mrs Richards on 9695814.
