National Sidecar Trial champions Jon Tuck and Matt Sparks, from Compton Greenfield, still lead the current series despite being beaten into third place in the fourth round at Rhayader in Mid Wales on Sunday.

Tuck and Sparks finished behind winners Kevin Nolan and Daryl Dale and runners-up Robin and Gillian Morewood.

Their closest rivals in the title chase, Robin and Sam Luscombe, fared worse, finishing in fourth place after losing 15 marks in the last six sections of a 38-section course.

Peter King netted a double success in the Wells club's timed and observation trial at Emborough Ponds, near Chilcompton, the same day.

He was the first of 50 starters to complete the 10-lap event and was also best on observation, losing eight marks in the final section, where a long meandering climb over tree roots claimed most marks. Runner-up Jason Hamblin lost most of his total in the same section, plus the remainder in the third.

Ricky Wiggins is still unbeaten in the South West Centre Trial Championship after eight rounds, but the Yeovil Gas-Gas rider was almost defeated in the Otter Vale club's round at Combe Raleigh, near Honiton, on Sunday.

Redruth rider Jason Lawer matched him mark for mark in the three-lap, 12-section event at Hill Farm, but he had to settle for second place as Wiggins lost marks in only two sections, compared to Lawer's five.

John Luff won the first round of the Kingswood club's year-long series at Chalkley in South Gloucestershire, remaining unpenalised in four laps of 10 sections.

Britain's leading motocross stars failed to shine in the second round of the World Series at Seulievo in Bulgaria on Sunday. Scot and Shaun Simpson were was best, with eighth and seventh places in the 250cc class events.
