Bristol drugs factory uncovered
A drugs factory thought to contain up to 1,000 plants has been uncovered by police at an industrial estate in Bristol.
Police acting on intelligence raided an industrial unit at the Fishponds Trading Estate in Deep Pit Road, Speedwell, on Tuesday, arresting seven people they found there.
Crime scene investigators and other officers were still at the unit yesterday, collecting evidence and dealing with the plants.
Seven men from Bristol, aged 19, 22, 26, 27, 40, 45 and 46, were all arrested on suspicion of drugs offences.
Six remained in custody last night but the 40-year-old was released on police bail pending further inquiries.
The raid was carried out by officers from the Avon and Somerset police Operation Atrium dedicated drugs team, based in Bristol.
Detective Inspector Dave Bradnock from Atrium said: "This is a significant seizure of cannabis which was likely to have been sold on the streets of Bristol.
"Our actions today have prevented it reaching the street and have allowed us to arrest people we suspect are involved in producing the drug.
"Class A and B drugs are harmful not only to the people who take them but harm the community as drug addicts often fund their habits through crime."
Mr Bradnock called on anyone who believed they knew people, places or vehicles involved in the supply and use of drugs to contact the police on 0845 456 7000.

“Yes it is a crime but throwing away the key is a bit extreme, considering what the sentences for murderers are, and the treatment prisoners receive.”

“Yes they broke the law. The law is silly. Pot is not as harming as Alcohol!
Go after the Crims that deal in Heroin etc as they are 'usually' the ones that steal to feed a habbit. I suspect that most of the Pot discussed above would be sold to proffessionals that do pay taxes ie. Doctors, Teachers etc. I smoke Pot on a regular basis and pay my tax on an all too regular basis. I purchase the goods from a lovely Family man. He works full time and pays his taxes. He is also very good at gardening.”

“Maybe just being caught is lesson enough for one of them. Or at least lets hope so and decide to make something better of themselves. but they only have themselves to blame and need to accept the consequences of their actions before something good in their life disappears.”

“Alcohol is the most damaging drug within society. The fact that it is socially acceptable and heavily taxed makes it fine to use though. Alcohol is worse than cannabis - fact. Why not just legalise pot and tax it and hopefully drop the price of fuel!”

“Missing the point slightly Lucy. I can't be bothered to explain though because I'll just be re-writing Wes's comment.. read it again and don't skim!
Rob - This argument is turning into a cliché, but what about people that smoke tobacco and drink alcohol? Working by your logic, they can't be perfectly good people either otherwise they wouldn't need to indulge..?”
