Bristol drugs accused: 'I have no interest in guns'
A man who admits being involved in a Bristol cocaine supply operation has told a jury he had nothing to do with guns.
Robert Brooks told a jury he supplied cocaine from contacts in Manchester to Bristol, dealing a kilo each week to another man who admits being involved in the conspiracy, Craig Rodel.
Brooks, who was tenant of the Ship and Castle pub in Ashton, told Bristol Crown Court yesterday he and Rodel would both buy cars, he always wore nice clothes and his plan was to "live the dream".
The court has heard that police called to a report of a burglary of James Waithe's flat at 79 Highridge Green stumbled on a 10-tonne hydraulic press, white powder and cutting agents, as well as an "arsenal" of weapons, including rifles, handguns, stun grenades and ammunition.
Waithe, 47, pleads not guilty to conspiracy to supply cocaine as well as possession of firearms to endanger life, and simple possession of firearms and explosives. Brooks, 63, of no fixed address, has pleaded guilty to the drugs conspiracy but denies the firearms charges.
Grant Richmond, of Long Cross, Lawrence Weston, Craig Rodel, 46, of Wexford Road, Bristol, and Luke Downes, 22, of Pevensey Walk, Bristol, have all pleaded guilty to being involved in the conspiracy.
Brooks told the jury he first delivered drugs to Rodel in Totterdown.
Brooks said the hydraulic press was moved to his (Brooks') flat in Clifton, which he wasn't living in.
He said after being used in Clifton it was moved to a flat he was staying at in Weston-super-Mare High Street.
Rodel would pay Brooks some £3,000 to £4,000 a week to retain his drugs supply services, Brooks said.
Regarding firearms which were recovered by police, Brooks told the court: "I had no interest in firearms."
The case continues at Bristol Crown Court.
