A drug addict who contracted HIV and hepatitis C stole food and clothes so she could sell them to feed her habit.

Gillian Kiedowski, 31, of The Gaskins in Lockleaze, pleaded guilty at Bristol Magistrates' Court to stealing six joints of frozen meat worth £45 from an Iceland supermarket in Easton on March 11.

She later stole children's clothing and underwear from a Marks and Spencer store on March 27 to sell for food and drugs money.

Kiedowski, who has also had a section of lung removed and part of a foot amputated because of her long-term heroin and crack cocaine addiction, was given a 12-month conditional discharge.

Defending, Rachel Harkness said both incidents were "unsophisticated".

Sentencing, court chairwoman Karen Shaw said: "Given that all the goods recovered were deemed to be in saleable condition and that you fully co-operated with police throughout, we have made the decision to give you a conditional discharge."

“It's sad enough that some people feel the need to shop in the chav's paradise that is Iceland but stealing from is really lowering yourself.”
