The Bristol branch of a national off-road driving club has raised £600 for a cancer charity in memory of member Janet Skinner, who lost her life to cancer earlier this year.

Members of the All Wheel Drive Club, a club where enthusiasts drive their 4x4s around farm land, raised the funds at the South Gloucestershire County Show, arranging forest trials for members of the public.

Stacey Mills, 21, who has been a member for 12 years, said: " It saw people from all ages and backgrounds enjoy themselves, and the best bit is that all the money raised was for a cancer charity."

Mrs Skinner lost her battle with stomach cancer on March 4 at the age of 52. She left husband Dave, who runs the regional club, and two children, Mark Souch, 33, and Kim Skinner, 19.

Miss Mills, of Knowle, who is in a relationship with Mr Souch, said: "Janet was like my stepmum, she was my knight in shining armour, as they say. I've known her since I was eight years old as we were neighbours and her son is my partner."

All funds went to charity Bust Bristol at Frenchay Hospital. The charity was also chosen because current member Trish Parsons is a survivor of the disease. Mrs Parsons, of Somerset, is the only member of her family to survive the disease.
