A motorist was involved in a collision after drinking more than the legal drink-drive limit, Bristol Magistrates Court heard.

Halmat Osman, 19, was driving along Fishponds Road on June 13 at about midnight when he failed to notice a queue of stationary traffic in front of him.

His Honda Civic car collided with the car in front. Osman lost control and it mounted the pavement.

Police saw the vehicle swerve across the road and mount the opposite pavement.

A roadside breath test was carried out, and Osman was taken to the police station for a blood test to confirm the reading of 50mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. He pleaded guilty to drink-driving, and driving with no insurance and no licence.

Osman, who had an interpreter in court, has no similar previous convictions.

He was fined £225 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £15. He was also disqualified from driving for 14 months.
