Bristol dad caught with stolen clothes
An unemployed Bristol father-of-two was arrested for handling stolen goods – straight after he was released from prison for another offence.
Jamie Temblett, 25, was stopped by police on Saturday evening as he rode a bicycle down Nover's Hill in Knowle.
Officers found he was carrying a large bag full of children's clothing, still on the hangers and with Sainsbury's labels attached.
Temblett, a floor screeder who has been out of work for four months, told them he had bought the clothes from a man in a pub.
Yesterday he pleaded guilty to dishonestly receiving stolen goods.
Defending, Anita Kearney told Bristol Magistrates' Court that Temblett was given two weeks' custody on November 6 for criminal damage, and that he already had the clothes by then.
She said her client intended to keep some of the clothes and sell the rest.
While he was in prison they were stored at his sister's house, where he had been living, and on Saturday he was moving them to a different address where he lives with his partner.
But magistrates sent him down for a further 10 weeks, saying his list of previous convictions was "horrendous".
Presiding magistrate James Nye said: "Our reasons for imposing this are because you have been caught straight away after being released.
"The purpose is to protect the public and remind you that something nasty happens when you offend the public."
His 10-week sentence – lowered from 12 weeks on account of his guilty plea – was suspended for 12 months, allowing him to start a new job on Monday.
Temblett was also given a three-month curfew and ordered to pay £455 costs and to cover outstanding fines.
