A cyclist from Bristol broke his leg in an accident in the Forest of Dean after a Land Rover driver cut in front of the rider and his friend.

Both men crashed off their bikes but the driver carried on without stopping.

The cyclists were travelling on the A4136 towards Staunton in the Forest of Dean on Sunday at about 4.20pm when the accident happened.

Gloucestershire police said a blue Land Rover towing a silver trailer with a quad bike on it was driven up behind the cyclists with its horn sounding.

The driver then passed the cyclists and cut back in front of them, causing them to collide and fall off their bikes.

The injured 30-year-old was taken by ambulance to Frenchay Hospital. His companion, a 31-year-old man also from Bristol, was not injured.

Police have appealed for any witnesses to contact them.

“Wholetime timewaster, nice of you to blame the cyclists for being run off the road. Even if they were riding two abreast, this is not illegal, and does not warrant the behaviour of the motorist.

Driving up behind a cyclist sounding your horn like the story implies is assualt, and so is swerving in whilst overtaking. Unfortunately behaviour like this by a minority of motorists is too common, and then you get idiots like "Timewaster" blaming the victims.”

Thats always been the case, but it doesn't stop them using the pavement as a private expressway though, does it?

    Where have you been?

    Hibernating?”

“I think that the contents of the trailer give a pretty good indication of the attitude of the driver.”
