Bristol couple's concert in memory of 16-year-old niece
A concert in memory of a 16-year-old student, who died from meningitis a year ago, is being held tomorrow near Bristol.
Jenny and David Pendleton organised the event to remember Hannah King, their niece, who died from the bacterial form of the disease.
David will play at the event, in Barrow Gurney, with his band The Wanted Men. Proceeds will go to Downend-based charity Meningitis UK.
"It was absolutely devastating when Hannah died and inevitably had a big impact on the family. She went to school a healthy teenager one morning and was dead within 24 hours," said Jenny.
"We're hoping to raise as much money as possible for Meningitis UK because finding a vaccine is the only way to stop families suffering the heartache we have.
"She would have absolutely loved it as she was very artistic and musical herself."
The concert is at 7.30pm in the village hall and proceeds will go to the charity's Search 4 a Vaccine Campaign to fund research into a vaccine against meningitis B – the most common form in the UK.
Tickets cost £12 for adults and £5 for children and pensioners. Call 973 7858 for details.
