Experts from across the world will gather in Bristol next week for a conference on bio-sensing.

The technology, which involves fusing biological systems with electronics, is being pioneered at the University of the West of England.

It has convened the international conference to look at the global marketplace for bio-sensing.

Professor Richard Luxton, director of the Institute of Bio-sensing Technology at UWE, said: "Bio-sensing is essentially about the interaction of biology with electronic systems. By harnessing interactions, researchers have almost limitless potential to develop systems and devices that help us all live longer, healthier and safer lives."

Devices and tests used in everyday life that have resulted from bio-sensing technology research include pregnancy testing kits and diagnostic tools for blood and urine tests used by medical practitioners.

Future projects include sensors to determine food rot and detect incontinence.
