Police closed Freezing Hill Lane in Wick after a crash involving a Mercedes car and a van today.

The 40-year-old woman car driver was injured in the accident which happened at 6.48am.

She was taken to hospital by ambulance.

A fire crew was also called to the scene to clean petrol from the road surface.

The Ford Transit van was badly damaged in the crash but the driver was not injured.

The A420 at Freezing Hill Lane was closed for more than an hour until the road was cleaned and the van recovered.
