CITY of Bristol College is among the first in the South West to offer a course for people wanting to forge a career in assessing homes for their energy efficiency.

The college has launched a Green Deal advisor course to students interested in becoming a Green Deal assessor.

The course will see hundreds of students train to become newly-qualified Green Deal energy assessors as part of the Government’s new flagship scheme Green Deal.

The Green Deal aims to make home’s more energy efficient by offering small loans for energy saving improvements such as instillation and new boilers.

However, to participate in the scheme home owners must first have their property assessed by a qualified Green Deal advisor, with recommendations agreed that will reduce energy waste.

Mike Harris, project manager of green skills at the college, said: “This course offers a great opportunity for individuals who are currently working in the property market or who want to become domestic energy assessors.

“We want to help local companies and individuals get ready for opportunities that will come from this new, fast growing sector.”
