Paul Hull praised the display of Adrian Jarvis after he kicked Bristol to victory over Moseley last night – and labelled the 14-point fly-half a "leader", writes Steve Cotton.

Jarvis followed up his man-of-the-match display at Cornish Pirates with another top performance as Bristol beat Moseley 19-9 at the Memorial Stadium.

Jarvis landed four penalties and converted Tom Arscott's first-half try as Bristol edged an uninspiring Championship clash.

Victory sent Paul Hull's men above previous leaders Exeter – but with Nottingham also winning last night, Bristol sit second in the Championship table ahead of today's matches.

And Hull, speaking about fly-half Jarvis, said: "He's a leader for us – he's organising our attack, he's a leader in training and he's having a good partnership with Jason Spice.

"You've seen that, with a bit of consistency, he's starting to really lead the team well.

"That's showing in his kicking and also in his direction of our game-plan. I'm really pleased with Jarvis and that partnership he is building with Spice."

Bristol managed only one try last night, when four would have taken them to the Championship summit.

But Hull is unconcerned by the shape of the league table during the formative stages of a long campaign that will end with eight teams playing off in the spring.

"I don't analyse the table too much," he said.

"We're just concerned about getting back to winning ways and it was important for us to win, because we lost our game at the Memorial Stadium.

"We expected it to be tough against a very dogged Moseley side – and it was. So we'll just plod on as we have been doing and we'll see what happens at the end."

But while the league table does not worry him too much, Hull may take a different view of his side's failure to score more tries than Arscott's solitary effort.

"We're happy that they didn't score any tries – but we only got one ourselves, so we'll look at that," he said.

"It was a hard-fought win and we'll take the win. I'm happy with the four points, although I'm disappointed we didn't finish off a few more opportunities.

"Take nothing away from Moseley – they came here with three wins on the bounce and came here full of confidence.

"They defended really well and made it very difficult for us – they contested the breakdown well and didn't miss many tackles.

"They came out of the changing rooms fired up and carried that through until the end of the game. We're happy with the win, but we'd like to have scored a few more tries, although it's not always that easy."
