Work to dismantle the wooden sail sculpture in Bristol city centre is all but finished.

The sail, which was one of the centre's most recognisable landmarks for the last 10 years, has been taken down after engineers found it was unsafe.

Work started on Friday lunchtime and the sail was finally gone by 6am yesterday.

All that is left now are eight wooden stubs that will be removed over the next few days.

The wood will be scrapped, but the metal pieces will be put into storage so that they can be used again.

“I used to find that pacing around the sails beating my arms up and down scared them all off.”

“I used to love coming here to eat my burgers, take pictures of seagulls for my collection and hook up with men who like the larger lady.”
