Bristol children were not wearing togas
The youngsters in the photograph inf the Bristol Post (Saturday May 23) dressed as Greek archers are not wearing togas.
The toga was worn by Roman citizens (the Romans were called the "gens togata" – the people who wore the toga). The toga was essentially a long woollen sheet draped around the whole length of the body, a rather awkward piece of clothing for any kind of military personage, whether Greek or Roman. If these children were taught that they were wearing togas, this error should be corrected as soon as possible.
