Bristol children's centre opens
Bristol's Lord Mayor Councillor Chris Davies joined staff, children and parents for the official opening of a children's centre in Stockwood.
The centre at Burnbush Primary School is one of a network of 25 centres that have opened across Bristol in the past four years.
They are part of the Government's Sure Start programme, which aims to provide seamless, integrated service and advice for children under five and their families.
The Burnbush centre opens just as the primary school is celebrating its golden jubilee.
Pupils have been learning about what it has been like to attend the school over the past five decades.
They held a party last week in which children dressed in costumes dating back to the Fifties, right up to the present day.
Head teacher of the Bristol school, Cat Dempsey, said: "We are proud of what this school has achieved over the past 50 years and are looking forward to welcoming the children's centre on board as part of our extended service for the community. This is an exciting time for Burnbush."
