Bristol children enjoy history lesson by travelling back to Tudor times
Children at Avonmouth Church of England Primary School launched their Tudor Day with a voyage back in time to the world of John Cabot. The Year 5 pupils, aged nine and 10, took part in a workshop with Warwick Moreton, former shipwright to the Matthew, the 1997 recreation of the 15th century craft in which the explorer travelled to America.
Mr Moreton told the children about Cabot's adventures and explained how the replica, now moored in Bristol docks, had been created.
The youngsters had the chance to work with models, exhibits, tools and maps. Teacher Sandra Beatty said: "They learned some new skills and were able to take part in some hands-on activities."
