One of Bristol's top chefs will be overseeing the restaurant at a new luxury boutique hotel in Henbury.

Chris Wicks is best known for his acclaimed Montpelier restaurant Bell's Diner, but he has joined the team at Berwick Lodge, near Cribbs Causeway, which opens later this month.

Owners Sarah and Fevzi Arikan bought the Victorian mansion five years ago after seeing an advert for it in the Evening Post's property pages. They have painstakingly restored it to its former glory after it had been a care home for years.

Wicks will be splitting his working week between Berwick Lodge and Bell's Diner and says he hopes to offer fine dining food at an affordable place at the new hotel.

He says: "The owners called me about two months ago and said they were looking for a chef and I went to have a look and I just thought 'wow'.

"I saw the 15 acres of grounds and could immediately see the potential with growing our own vegetables and wedding functions. There's even a small lake where we could introduce fish.

"It's a great challenge and it's something I've always wanted to do myself."
