A Bristol charity raised more than £7,000 with a fundraising ball in the city to mark breast cancer awareness month.

BUST (Breast Cancer Unit Support Trust) supports Frenchay Hospital's breast care centre.

The charity raised £7,100 through the ball at the Bristol Hotel.

Funds raised by BUST go to buy cutting-edge equipment for the diagnosis, research and treatment of breast cancer.

Members of Avon Fire and Rescue Service joined consultant surgeons Simon Cawthorn, Ajay Sahu and the BUST Committee at the ball, which celebrated the achievements of the charity and its supporters.

Among the equipment they have purchased is an ultrasound machine using the latest technology to diagnose breast problems, which previously could only be seen by mammogram.

The charity has also been involved in the review of breast cancer services that is being carried out across the wider Bristol area.

Jenny Wookey, BUST chairwoman, said: "I am delighted that the BUST Ball was also an occasion to celebrate the good progress of the Breast Care Services Review for Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire."
