A Bristol has been jailed for 16 months for stealing property from a sports changing room to feed his drug habit.

Craig Badman would rifle through the belongings of players at Bristol Imperial Sports in West Town Lane taking mobile phones, cash, credit cards, driving licences and wallets.

The 30-year-old, of Leinster Avenue, Knowle, pleaded guilty to two charges of burglary and asked for 10 similar offences to be taken into consideration.

Nicholas O'Brien, prosecuting at Bristol Crown Court, said Badman walked into changing rooms at Bristol Imperial Sports for the third time on October 30 this year and stole from young sports people.

"Members of the youth team of the Bristol Rovers football club were using the changing room," he said

"To get in you have to use a key pad. What he did is wait for someone to come out and before the door closed went in and stole items.

"He had done that on two previous occasions in the same month.

"In police interview he said he went into the changing room to wash his hands and use the loo but accepted what he had done before the justices."

He said Badman had stolen phones, cards and around £250 cash.

Tabitha Macfarlane, defending, said her client, who had previous convictions for burglary, had received treatment for his drug addiction. She said Badman had managed to stay drug free for two weeks before reverting to taking heroin and crack cocaine and committing the offences.

Jailing Badman, Recorder Barry Cotter QC said: "The aggravating features of this offence are simply your previous offences and the fact you had been given an opportunity. This means that there's no option other than prison."
