The picture of a robber using a carving knife to threaten staff at a Bristol bookmaker has been used in the hope that it will bring forward new witnesses.

The suspect demanded staff hand over cash at the bookmaker in Ashley Down Road, Horfield, at about 4pm on Friday, August 21.

He was carrying what appeared to be a black handled carving knife, which was about nine inches long.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. The robber is black and aged 20-25-years-old. He is about 6ft 2ins and of a slim build.

He was wearing a black jacket with a North Face logo on the rear right shoulder, the left breast and on the left cuff. He was wearing the hood over a baseball cap, which had a yellow peak with a circular badge or logo on, which was green and about the size of a 50p piece.

He was also thought to be wearing a black and white scarf or bandana pulled up over his face. He was wearing black tracksuit bottoms with a small white motif on the left thigh and black training shoes with a white tick style logo. Police believe that it is possible the same man may have approached the Filton Avenue branch of the same bookmaker a few minutes earlier on the same day but did not enter the door.

It is believed that he got into a black car – possibly a Kia Carens – which drove down Sandling Avenue.

Call Bristol CID on 0845 456 7000 with any information.

“If it¿s this chaps 1st offence, then he should get 15 years without parole. If he misbehaves they should extend his sentence. Knowing the great British legal system is just there to make lawyers rich, I suspect he will get 18 months suspended a fine and maybe 30 hours community service.”
