Bristol biker on track to raise cancer cash in memory of his wife
A Fishponds motorcyclist is planning to ride around six UK motorcycle circuits and the 1,400 miles between them to raise money for Cancer Research UK and St Peter's Hospice.
John Miller, 61, is preparing to set off on his Honda from Bristol to his first circuit, Castle Combe race track, on August 26.
The trip is in memory of his wife Ann, who died of cancer last year.
Mr Miller said: "I've always been interested in bikes and while we were courting I raced at each of the race circuits I'll be visiting. Ann would always come with me to both support and watch me.
"My total trip will be well over 1,400 miles – the TT Mountain Course is almost 38 miles per lap alone.
"I'll be 62 by the time I do this challenge and anyone who rides a bike knows that a distance of just 1,400 miles is a fair old way."
After completing a lap at Castle Combe, Mr Miller will travel to Brands Hatch to complete a lap there. From Brands Hatch, he will then ride to Snetterton, followed by Mallory Park and then on to Oulton Park.
From Oulton Park, John will then ride to the ferry terminal for the Isle of Man crossing, and travel on to the Isle of Man TT Mountain Course where he will ride six laps then start his return journey.
Mr Miller said: "I'm determined to fulfil this challenge and raise significant funds for both Cancer Research UK and St Peter's Hospice.
"Cancer Research UK was a charity Ann always supported, and St Peter's Hospice helped care for her when she was ill.
"I would love to raise at least £5,000 which I'll split between both charities."
Alexis Woodward, of Cancer Research UK, said: "We are really grateful to John for fund- raising for us."
Anna Cairns, community fundraiser for St Peter's Hospice, said: "The money raised by John will help St Peter's continue to provide its key services."
