A motorcyclist was left with a broken leg after his bike was in collision with a car in Bristol.

Paramedics treated the 40-year-old man at the scene in Summerhill Road, St George, after a bystander called the emergency services at 9.25am on Saturday morning.

Paramedic Chris Hewitt said: "On assessment the patient appeared to have broken both the tibia and the fibula in his left leg.

"It is not clear whether his leg was crushed by the car during the collision or whether he broke his leg when he came off the bike and it landed on him.

"Thanks to Avon and Somerset police, who closed the road, we had more time to assess and treat him.

"We would also like to thank bystanders, who not only called for an ambulance, but also assisted me by holding the drip we used to administer intravenous drugs," he said.

The man was taken to Frenchay Hospital, and the road was re-opened shortly after.
