A brawl outside Filton College that spilled out onto the A38 ended with two female students in hospital and two others arrested.

Police and ambulance services were called to Filton College's A38 campus alongside Gloucester Road North at about 3pm yesterday, after a fight broke out between a group of girls.

College authorities said an internal investigation would be launched into the incident and disciplinary action would follow where appropriate. Witnesses said they were unsure what had started the scuffle but that it involved students from the college's beauty course, as well as health and social care students. They said they believed the incident may have had racial connotations.

Nichola Littlejohns, 17, and Brogan George, 19, both health and social care students, said a classmate had been involved.

Ms Littlejohns said: "We were walking to the bus stop outside college and we saw a big group of girls. There was some shouting and screaming and then it just seemed to turn into a big fight.

"There were about 20 students and one from our class, who I think is from Somalia, was being pushed down onto the ground.

"The police arrived and started to break them up. It seemed to be girls from the beauty class fighting and then some boys joined in.

"We don't know why it started but I'd say it looked like some sort of racism."

A number of police cars arrived on the scene to break up the groups of students outside the college.

Simon Whitby, spokesman for Avon and Somerset constabulary, said: "Police were called to a disturbance at Filton College, Block A at 3.08pm. A group of students were outside the main reception area. An additional unit was sent to the scene when a larger group of students gathered."

Two students, both thought to be about 20 years old, were taken to Frenchay Hospital. Mel Glanville, a spokeswoman for Great Western Ambulance Service, said two ambulances were called to the scene at 3.25pm: "Two females were taken to hospital, one with a head injury and the other complaining of pains in her chest."

Last night college vice principal Sara-Jane Watkins said: "A disturbance outside Filton College's A38 Campus, after lessons finished, occurred today.

"An early investigation suggests there appeared to be a fight between a small group of girls which ended in two female students being arrested and two students attending hospital with minor injuries. The reason for the fracas is not yet clear.

"The college will be undertaking a full internal investigation into the incident, before taking any appropriate disciplinary action."

Seriously guys your all pathetic, atleast theres some people on here who actuly realise what us beauty girls want out of life! And just to put things straight I was there and saw everything what happened and i can honestly say, not one beauty student caused that fight.”

“Oh my, word has reached us in Clifton of what's been going on, we are frightfully worried about this affecting our property prices as we have a sign to Filton on one of our roads. Could you all please return to your social housing and stop causing a fuss please.”

I'm sure they'll be happy to have a few extra votes.

Us sane people will make sure you never get in.

A few angry members of the underclass will not make a difference.”

“Not only is there almost no media coverage of the Black violent hate crimes against Whites, but when there is the victim and aggressor ar reversed as in this case, and in high profile cases when Blacks are prosecuted for heinous crimes against innocent Whites, the White victims are ignored and the Black criminals are turned into ¿real victims¿ by the media.

If a gang of forty English girls motivated by racial hatred had attacked two black girls, kicking and stomping them into unconsciousness, as far as the Media are concerned, oh yes the supposedly unbiased media, they would be interviewing the Black victims on every TV talk show across the land, discussing his fear, his pain, his suffering. They would be interviewing his crying relatives and friends. We're not having it! You're a newspaper TELL THE TRUTH!”

“I witnessed the whole thing and from what i could see it was completely one sided. I hope the aggressors, that at one point were using an umbrella as a weapon, get what they deserve.”
