A barber shop in Bristol is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

V&M's Barber Shop, in Henleaze Road, Henleze, is run by husband and wife team Vince and Maria Mercato.

The couple live above the shop with their two children Antonio, three, and Liliana, seven.

They married just over 10 years ago, having met three years before when Vince was working in Maria's cousin's barber shop. They wanted to start up a business together - and that was when V&M's began.

They cut men's and children's hair, and both come from Sicilian families with several relatives in the trade.

In Bristol alone, 31-year-old Maria has two brothers in business - at Salvatore in Stoke Bishop and Carms in Muller Road.

Vince, 36, said: "We want to say thank you to all the people who have had their hair cut by us over the years, we have all sorts of people in here and everyone is welcome.

"You can have a judge in your chair one moment and a hoodie in it the next.

"The kids love to come and help us in the shop, even Antonio comes down and does some sweeping up for us. The plan is to keep going as long as we can - hopefully Antonio will take over when we retire.

"We have had to work hard to get to where we are, it has been difficult at times bringing up a young family at the same time. But we enjoy working together and have good banter in the shop. We are really pleased to be celebrating 10 years."
