Should Bristol ban foie gras?
An animal rights group from Bristol has launched a petition to ban the sale of foie gras in the city.
Bristol Animal Rights Collective believes the production process is cruel and wants restaurants to stop selling it.
Foie gras is the liver of force-fattened ducks and geese, and is considered a delicacy. The UK is still one of the largest importers of foie gras.
Vegan MP for Bristol East Kerry McCarthy is also backing the campaign.
A Bristol Animal Rights Collective spokesman, said: "We continue to be shocked that a progressive city like Bristol still allows foie gras to be sold.
"York is foie gras-free, and we hope Bristol follows suit."
The petition can be viewed at www.epetitions.bristol.gov.uk/petition.php?id=266.

“As far as your hippy comments go, you can label us whatever you¿d like if it helps you feel safer about talking shit on the internet. Give it a go on the streets and you¿ll get one of those steel toe sandals in your face.”

“And last words to Alex, as far as vivisection goes. Of course, majority of experiments have always been done on smaller animals such as rodents and to this day are. But dogs, cats, monkeys and all sorts of other animals are still tested on this very day. The fact that SHAC chose to put a dog on the poster, although it¿s minority of the tested animals, is because the dog has a specific tie to secret investigations which sparked of the SHAC campaign. Also, i think what you¿re failing to see is that number of animals used for vivisection have risen over years not declined, so there are more of everything than there was before.”

“Your right to choice ends where you choose to deny another being¿s right to choose. I don¿t think any of you rightfully believe in their minds that the ducks voluntarily put up themselves under such scrutiny. If we follow ¿it¿s my choice¿ logic of thinking, then slave owners were also only exercising their choices. You haven¿t got right to choice to kill an animal the slowest, cruelest way you desire¿you haven¿t got right to choice to kick a dog into pieces because you get a thrill out of it.
To all those who go on about all those other horrible things in a world. I think all within Animal Rights movement are aware of other problem, and some of us are involved with other groups as well. But I can¿t be everywhere doing everything. So, if you see something you don¿t like, don¿t tell me to do something about it, get up and do it yourselves.”

“Ducks and geese used for Foie Gras production are free range for first 12 weeks of their lives and then force fed for the next 12 days, without stepping out of their cages from there on. After few days of force-feeding, ducks how problem with movement and could hardly enjoy their walking about.
Calves used for veal unlike cows used for beef are kept in closed off individual crates not being in even eye contact with another animal of their kind. They are also kept in dark, being fed only milk formula without any minerals or iron as to keep their meat as pale as possible. They are then killed after 6 months of this miserable existence.
Many people fail to see that there are far more important things here than their tastes, and that¿s cruelty imposed on an animal all for the sake of satisfying someone¿ taste buds. Have any of you ever tasted human meat? If not, how can you know it isn¿t good?
It¿s not called sensitivity, it¿s called empathy. How would you feel if you were in their place? First you get the taste of life for 3 months, and then you are rounded up and cruelly treated for 12 days after which if they didn¿t kill you, you¿d die from it on your own.”

“"Sorry, I'm promised to my lady."
FAR too quick a denial. You seem confused.
Why are you getting so personal? This story is about 'foi gras', NOT about how great and successful, I am.
Envy is a VERY unpleasant trait. You should deal with yours now. Work hard, maybe have a bit of plastic surgery, go to a gym for about three years every day for six hours, clean your teeth, have a wash, and, yes, you too may be as desirable to birds as Mike Ford. I doubt it, but, maybe.]
Must dash, my seventeen year old stunner's eighteen year old sister has just called round with a glint in her eye. So many birds, only one Mike Ford.........”
