Bristol University students will be taking part in an annual "jailbreak" charity event this weekend.

They will travel as far as they can in 36 hours without spending any money.

The furthest distance ever travelled by a team is 5,190 miles to Arizona in America.

This year, the students are raising money for Ronald McDonald House, where parents can stay while their sick children are being treated at Bristol Children's Hospital.

Teams will be released from a real cell and then must charm their way onto buses, trains, and planes to travel as far as possible. All-girl team Left Hand Drive are planning to get to Morocco.

Laura Baker, 18, who is studying medicine, said: "We have been thinking up weird and wonderful ways to get some freebies, and have been practicing our persuasive techniques that will win us the competition.

"It is definitely going to be an experience and we are really excited to see how far we can go."

Her team mates in Left Hand Drive are Danielle Baker-Wilson, 18, who is studying aerospace engineering, and medical student Heidi Trivasse, 18.

Ronald McDonald House fundraiser Louise Cook said: "The event is a lot of fun. This is the first year we've linked up with Bristol University in their challenge events and we're amazed to have 18 brave students 'breaking out of jail' for the Ronald McDonald House Bristol. So far they've raised over £1,000 for us, and there will be many more challenges happening over the course of this academic year.

"We are so thankful to all the students taking part and it is help like this that keeps the charity providing its much needed service throughout the year."
