One by one, Somerfield supermarkets across Bristol are being converted into Co-ops following a £1.6 million takeover earlier this year.

The latest to be re-branded is the Henleaze branch, which was officially launched by pupils from Henleaze Infant and Junior Schools and Claremont School.

But the last traces of the Bristol-based firm Somerfield, which was bought out in February, will not disappear until the end of 2011.

The process of phasing the brand out is likely to take up to two years, with the Somerfield brand remaining in some locations throughout that period as stores are gradually converted. The Somerfield Bristol headquarters will be retained for about another 12 months, while all head office functions are moved to Co-op's Manchester base.
